- Mark McAdow
I had my first “annual physical" this morning since moving to OKC. I followed all the doctor’s instructions and will know the results in a week. I feel great, especially because nothing was mentioned about my weight (I didn’t ask of course either)! Annual physicals are important, primarily in preventing more serious illnesses. Lab tests can point out areas of concern we otherwise might not be aware of or ignore. I don’t enjoy going to the doctor, but I do enjoy being healthy! Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (I Cor. 6:19), so they deserve some TLC, and in some cases, an extreme makeover!
Our Mayor, Mick Cornett, is getting a lot of PR for encouraging us as a City to lead a healthier lifestyle. First, it was the announcement of his goal for us to collectively lose a million pounds and yesterday he launched a “walking initiative” – I think the Mayor may be listening to First Church sermons online! Seems I recall talking about walking just last Sunday. By the way, did you get to take a walk with the Lord this last week? I sure hope so! I believe that physical, spiritual, and mental/emotional health are tied together. It’s so hard to keep each area balanced, but when we do, life is better!
I’ve been listening this week to a Willow Creek CD based on the book by Kerry Shook, One Month to Live: Living a No-Regrets Life. He challenged his church staff, and now his readers, to live as though they had only one month to live and by so doing, live as Jesus did. Here are the four principles he gleaned from Jesus’ life:
1. Jesus lived passionately
2. Loved completely
3. Learned humbly
4. Jesus left boldly.
If we adopted those same principles I wonder how different our life might be? It’s worth thinking about. The days of our lives were ordained by God before even one came to be (Psalm 139:16). We’re not promised tomorrow – just today. Live your life for Jesus today!
I’m looking forward to Sunday and the beginning of World Outreach Week. Come be blessed and stretched!
Yours in Christ,
Mark
