The Christmas Season has produced some great movies over the years! Movies like
It’s a Wonderful Life,
Miracle on 42nd Street,
Santa Clause I and II,
Elf,
A Charlie Brown Christmas and of course, last year’s
The Nativity Story. My girls were watching another classic the other night,
White Christmas with good ol' Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.
Lots of movies debut during December. One newly-released movie has come to my attention that is targeted to children, and has a very dark and ungodly theme. I’m sure many of you have already heard of it or seen Christian reviews of this movie. It’s called
The Golden Compass and stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. The writer of the three-part trilogy is an atheist named Phillip Pullman. His trilogy is called
His Dark Materials, and includes
The Golden Compass,
The Subtle Knife and
The Amber Spyglass. He is a gifted writer and the movie has excellent graphics, I’m told, but unfortunately it has a very subtle dark purpose.
Phillip Pullman has an agenda. He hates Christianity and wants to undermine the Christian faith. In speaking of C.S. Lewis’ brilliant Christian series,
The Chronicles of Narnia, verses his own, Pullman stated that “Narnia is the Christian one…and mine is the non-Christian.” He went on to say very directly in an interview, “My books are about killing God.”
I’d encourage you not to support this movie or the book series. As Christian people we need not fear the movie, but be wise. Pullman cannot kill God or destroy our faith, but he can mislead many with his evil intent. We must pray and be informed.
Thanks for being
“wise as serpents and gentle as doves.” Blessings! Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday!
Mark
P.S. Tiffany Davis sent me an excellent review of this movie. I’m sure she’d be glad to share it with you.
