Watch Out for the Heat!

Kirk NormanHas anyone noticed how hot it is? Or is it just me? We were lulled to sleep in June and most of July. We enjoyed the cooler temperatures, the lower water bills, the lower electric bills... but now it's time to pay.

I am reminded of the frog experiment. If you take a frog and place it in room temperature water on the stovetop with the burner on, the frog is very happy to sit and swim in the water. When the temperature of the water reaches the point to where the frog's life is in danger the frog will remain in the water until its life is taken. But, if you heat the water to the boiling point and you throw the frog in the water, the frog immediately jumps out recognizing, that is no place for a frog.

Sin sometimes represents itself as a wonderful pool in which we can swim about and enjoy the surroundings. Actually, swimming in this pool is sucking the life out of us. If we were to be approached by sin and all its deadly heat, we would surely jump out of sin's grasp.

In what areas of your life are you meddling that are deadly pots gradually getting warmer? What things can you change which will send up early warning signs that someone is turning up the heat? Coolness in scripture is always representative of the good in life. Keep cool and watch out for the heat!

Grace and peace,
Kirk Norman
