Weather

Kirk NormanIsn't it strange as we hear of the threat of snow that we begin to plan our days around what might happen? This past weekend we heard the tornado sirens go off and most of us went about our normal routine, never thinking about running to the cellar or hiding in a closet. Oklahoma is a very exciting place to live with respect to our weather. One day 78 degrees... and the next we have sleet and bitter cold rain.

How are you planning for the ever-changing climate of your life? We are never really assured of what tomorrow will bring. One day it is sunny and warm, and the next bitter coldness creeps in. How will you handle the next big storm that is sure to come? How have you prepared your survival kit for the raging storms of life? It might really challenge each of us to prepare a sack of things which would see us through to that next warm day. I might prepare a sack which would contain prayers to prepare me for things which might come my way (Luke 11:1), and take some scripture (2 Timothy 3:16-17), and place it in my mind for safe keeping when I need a little help. Maybe I would pack some fruit (Galatians 5: 22-23) for nourishment along the journey home. I would set aside a jar containing water (John 7:38) which would cause me to never be thirsty again. I may need a light (John 1:4) to guide me in the dark times.

As we prepare ourselves and our families for the Spring storms and put together our safety kits, let us be mindful to keep the most important things safe in the arms of our constant Shepherd.

Grace and Peace along the journey,
Kirk

P.S. Let us remember to keep Brother Mark in our prays on his journey this week.

I hadn't really thought about a spiritual suvival kit. I put on my "armor" each day but I should also think about adding in the "survival kit" too.

P.S. I would have told you it was not going to snow today!

What a wonderful analogy of our lives!! Reading
God's Word every day reminds me to keep my survival kit ready and always fresh so that its contents do not become old and stale and I will have God's message to me for that day close at hand. Thanks, Kirk, we appreciate your faithfulness and dedication to First Church.
